it takes quite a lot of thought and planning to  get different media to work seamlessly and feel fluid and natural . each piece needs to be built in a way that allows it to to connect to everything around it at just the right time and place

this is a sizzle reel of the work i did on popular science's ipad magazine . sure , it was a while ago , but steve jobs gave us a shout out in a keynote speech . he said we were " kind of the hill of digital magazines " . Not bad !

covers

what's the point of covers today ? nobody reads magazines any more , right ? maybe , but in a world of information feeds , every story needs its own cover

the fundamental strengths of a good cover ( attention , the story , the brand ) still hold true , possibly more so

pictures of people are hard because , well , they are people : emotional , unpredictable and concerned with self image , especially when they are celebrities . and photoshoots are expensive

there is skill and method to consistently producing compelling images of people .
